Types of Thai criminal record checks — FAQ
Different purposes require different forms of criminal record verification in Thailand. Choosing the wrong type is a frequent cause of delay.
What types exist?
A police clearance certificate for overseas use, a domestic criminal record check for employment, and verification requested by an employer with the applicant's consent.
Which one do employers in Thailand use?
A domestic record check with the applicant's written consent; the overseas police clearance format is normally not required.
Which one do foreign immigration authorities want?
The police clearance certificate issued by the Royal Thai Police, usually with certified translation and legalization.
Do fingerprints have to be taken in person?
Yes for the police clearance route. Fingerprints can be taken abroad at an accepted authority when the applicant is not in Thailand.
Can a record be removed?
Record handling is governed by law and decided by the authorities. No service provider can promise removal or a clean result.
How long is a check valid?
There is no statutory expiry, but most authorities accept certificates issued within three to six months.
What is the fee?
Fees depend on the document type, language pair, number of legalization steps and urgency. Request a written quotation by LINE, phone or email.
