About Thailand's Notarial Services Attorney System
Certified Translation by Notarial Services Attorney is governed by the Lawyers Council of Thailand under regulations first issued in 2003 and updated in 2008. Only attorneys who have completed the Notarial Services Attorney training course and obtained a separate license may perform notarial acts in Thailand.
Unlike the United States, Thailand does not have a separate "Notary Public" profession. The notarial role is reserved for licensed lawyers, which provides a higher standard of legal review for every document signed.
For Certified Translation by Notarial Services Attorney, the lawyer verifies the signer's identity using an original government ID, confirms the signer understands the content, and witnesses the signature in person. The act is then recorded in an official logbook retained for at least five years.
